Item Description

There are thousands of localities for Calcite around the world, but the Elmwood Mine is one of the premier sources for the species. This small cabinet specimen is a fine quality, very sharp, highly lustrous, very gemmy, scalenohedral twin with a classic golden hue sitting on dark reddish-brown "ruby jack" Spalerite with minor Barite on the back. Unfortunately, both of the terminations on the Calcite are contacted, but the central portion of the crystal is in fine shape. I love the well-defined the reentrant angle on the twin. Classic material and a true favorite among collectors and dealers alike. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
