Item Description

Calcite is one of the most abundant minerals on Earth, but the classic pieces from St Andreasberg are some of the most iconic examples from anywhere in Europe. They are signature specimens, and celebrated for their old-world significance. This attractive small cabinet display specimen features many sharp, lustrous, white, prismatic trigonal crystals of Calcite measuring up to 1.1 cm on matrix. The piece is very three-dimensional, and virtually all of the Calcites are complete all around. Fine quality all around, and an excellent example of the historic from St Andreasberg. The piece shows vivid orange-pink fluorescence under LW UV light. From the collection of the well-known dealer and collector Richard ("Rich") A. Kosnar of Colorado (1946-2007), the namesake for the rare zirconium phosphate mineral, Kosnarite. Rich had a large suite of European classics, and his company Mineral Classics was named specifically for the old European classics that he admired so much.
