Item Description
A classic example of the famous Calcites from Irai in Rio Grande do Sul in far southern Brazil near the border with Argentina. These Calcites along with the classic Amethyst specimens are some of the most recognizable minerals in the world. This piece features several scalenohedral Calcites measuring up to 5.1 cm long with a graceful internal translucency and a matte luster sitting on a bit of green Celadonite on volcanic host rock matrix. The largest Calcite crystal is actually doubly-terminated and virtually undamaged, save a contact on the reverse side where it was attached to the pocket wall. The smaller Calcites are in good shape, though a few contacts can be seen here and there. Hard to photograph, but nice in person.
