A superb classic specimen of these iconic Calcites from Egremont, England. These pieces are some of the most iconic and beloved examples of the species in the world, as they were mined in the 1800s and found their way into museums and private collections around the world. This cabinet sized specimen hosts dozens of sharp, well-formed, very gemmy, scalenohedral colorless Calcite crystals measuring up to 2.0 cm long, sitting on reddish-brown iron-bearing matrix. Some crystals are broken/cleaved, so the piece is not pristine, but there are many undamaged crystals which look attractive up close. Worthwhile for anybody who collects Calcites or old English classics. Valued $700.
