Calcite (classic material)

Item Description

A fine matrix display specimen of the old classic Calcites from the Onganja Mine (Emke Mine) in Namibia. These pieces were mined in the 1970s and are very rarely available on the market, especially in such showy examples like this. Two predominant, sharp, glassy, "jewel"-like crystals of pale golden colored Calcite measuring up to 4.1 cm, are sitting on a matrix coated by much smaller Calcite crystals, which have a slight reddish-brown hue due to the color of the underlying matrix coming through. The larger of the two main Calcites has a wonderful almost satiny interior, and the smaller one is quite gemmy, showing near water-clear transparency. No damage on the front of the piece, but it's obviously contacted on the back where it was removed from the pocket. Beautiful, good sized, showy and fine quality for this rarely seen but classic material.
