Item Description
An attractive cabinet sized display specimen of these famous Calcites. Mining at St Andreas berg goes back centuries, and this is one of the most celebrated mining districts in Germany. This piece is filled with excellent, well-formed, prismatic hexagonal crystals of Calcite measuring up to 3.8 cm on matrix. The Calcites have a VERY slight pinkish tinge to them, but they look nearly white in most lighting. The majority of the crystals are in very good shape, but there are some broken/contacted areas, so the piece is not pristine. It's still a very showy and aesthetic piece, and would make a fine addition to a Calcite suite or a collection of German minerals. Valued $1,250. From the collection of Richard ("Dick") Philip Hauck formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey and now a resident of Franklin, New Jersey. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
