Item Description

A very fine, eye-catching and rich calcite specimen from this well-known quarry in Belgium. The La Sambre Quarry has produced some excellent calcites in its history, some of which show wonderful crystallization, such as this fine piece. A well-placed, 2.9 cm, gemmy, twinned calcite rhomb with very complex and nifty stepped-growth faces dominates the limestone matrix totally covered with smaller, gemmy, flattened rhombs. The large rhomb is essentially pristine, with the trivial periphery wear being out-of-sight on the back. A very attractive specimen. Ex Cynthia Payne Calcite Collection. Classic material.
