Item Description

Chalcopyrite and marcasite with lustrous, translucent, gray calcite scalenohedrons are a Brushy Creek Mine classic. This is a very fine and well-composed small cabinet of sparkly iridescent golden marcasite crystals preferentially coating the recessed areas of the calcites. What actually happened is that the original crystals were covered with chalcopyrite, and then the calcite began growing again, enveloping the original crystals in some areas and leaving the chalcopyrite exposed in others, - so these are phantoms. You can see the surface of the original crystals inside the later, transparent overgrowths. There is a hollow, rounded crust of iridescent, golden and gray-blue marcasite microcrystals on the side of the large scalenohedron. The aesthetics of this complete all-around and pristine example are most excellent and the large scalenohedron is striking. This fine piece has multiple display possibilities and is one of the finest such Brushy Creek combos, you will see in this size range. Choice material from the Miller Calcite Collection # 741. valued $750-1000. RARE TODAY!
