Item Description

An impressive and rare large combination plate from the famous mines at Dal'negorsk. Dal'negorsk is world famous for sulfide and calcite specimens, but rarely do you see them both in this richness and outstanding quality! The dramatic stacked cluster of skeletal, pokerchip, cream-colored, calcite rhombs is the focal point of this piece, but it is impossible to disregard the striking galena, chalcopyrite and quartz crystals. The sharp galena crystals have absolutely splendent, metallic-gray luster and they include a 2.7 cm, spinel-twinned crystal with fortification features on one side (largest crystal - visible in closeups). The very rich covering of sharp, layered, iridescent golden-brassy, chalcopyrite crystals to 2.3 cm is a stark compliment to the galena crystals. And the sprays of glassy quartz points are a very fine accent. One spot of trivial brusing to the sulfides is barely noticeable. This is a superb and rare large combination plate from this renowned locale. Pink fluorescence on the calcite. Older material from the early 1990s finds. Valued at $2000-2500 and well worth it. Try to find another of this combination quality and size! Hefty ore at 6.4 pounds or 2.9 kilos. Ex Fran Allegra Collection from the 1990s. Fran is a well-known Federal judge, collector and author of the Legal Nuggets column in Mineralogical Record.
