Item Description

A fascinating, RARE, large calcite pseudomorph from the famed Broken Hill deposit. The sculptural two-sided flattened slipper-shaped piece is composed entirely of thin elongated rod-like clusters of tiny glassy dogtooth calcite crystals. The calcites are possibly casts after thin gypsum crystals and the two sides are dramatically different. The striking rectangular hole through the center resembles the cast of a much larger gypsum crystal, that has been dissolved away. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection. Bob is a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. A remarkable, perhaps unique large calcite pseudomorph from Broken Hill. Pink fluorescence.
