Item Description

A surreal, dramatic and colorful pseudomorph from this famous ancient polymetallic mining district. The Boldut Mine is well-known for outstanding calcite specimens, but this calcite after calcite epimorph is truly exceptional. An epimorph is a hollow shell, or mold, left by a mineral that had overgrown an initial mineral which has dissolved away (MINDAT). Stunning coral-pink, lustrous translucent calcite rhombs have replaced the impressive dogtooth calcite crystals. The striking large, dominating pseudo is 5. 3 cm tall. Fabulous, contrasting second generation calcite fans, sprays and isolated crystals of translucent, high satin lustre colorless dogtooth crystals are a superlative accessory to this other worldly and very rare pseudo from the Ken Roberts Pseudomorph Collection. The colorless calcites have modest pink fluorescence. The hollow casts are clearly evident on the bottom and the sphalerite adds even more charcter. Valued at $750-1000.
