Item Description
This piece came labeled as coming from "Borrego" in Riverside County, California, but the only Calcites from any locality containing "Borrego" is the Hilton deposit in Borrego Springs, San Diego County. With that said, I'm quite confident that this piece is from the Hilton Deposit. It features sharp, well-formed, translucent, white / colorless "Blatterspat" (bladed spar) habit Calcite crystals meausring up to 3.5 cm free of matrix. There are a few contacts, but the piece is still in good shape. As you can see, it displays beautifully without the aid of a base or clay and has great three-dimensional form. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#502). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
