Calcite (beautiful rare "Faden" group)

The Boldut Mine has been the source of some truly impressive and fine quality display specimens of well-known species like Quartz, Calcite and various sulfides. The Calcites from this locality frankly do not get the respect they deserve for the wide variety of habits and excellent quality specimens that have been found. This piece is a very showy small cabinet featuring several "worm"-like formations of highly compressed, stacked scalenohedra with excellent luster and sharp faces free of matrix. If you look closely, you can see the Calcites are quite gemmy when backlit, and they are in fact rarely seen "Faden" groups as they feature very thin "strings" or "threads" that run the length of each crystal group. We did our best to illustrate the "Fadens", although I will say the piece looks great in person. A few minor bruises can be seen here and there, but it's more than forgivable considering that this might be the first "Faden" Calcite specimen that we've seen from this locality.
