Calcite (beautiful form and color) (ex Tom Campbell Collection)

When it comes to Calcite, the species is found in thousands of world localities, but China has produced not only a great number of pieces in recent years, but some of the finest quality examples ever found. This small cabinet piece hosts several, sharp, well-formed, rather gemmy, rhombic crystals - some of which are white / colorless but others have an alluring and rarely seen silvery-smoky color in areas. The majority of the crystals very gemmy, which is amplified by the excellent luster on the surface. I love the secondary modified edges on the rhombs, which give them character and a beautiful form. The largest Calcite measures 4.3 cm. Additionally, the piece shows an attractive combination of colors when exposed to SW UV light, as some of the rhombs fluoresce a vivid pink hue, while others are more muted, showing very little fluorescence.  A very aesthetic and showy display quality specimen of this now hard to find material.
