Calcite (beautiful color)

Calcite is a diverse species, found in a wide range of colors and styles. This piece is form a recent find in Poland, featuring eye-catching and unique Calcite crystals from the Grabiszyce Quarry, which lies in far southwestern Poland near the Czech border. I was told that the pieces were actually collected starting in 2015, but they were not revealed to the public until a few years ago. According to the information online, the area that produced these specimens in nearly finished, so very little will coming out if any at all. They made a big splash at the Tucson Show a handful of years ago, and were very popular with collectors as you might expect due to their intense orange color and beautiful crystallization. The Calcites form in radial "sprays" consisting of narrow crystals on brecciated basalt matrix. Most of the cavities that produced these specimens are small and narrow, and it is very difficult to find pieces without damage and good coverage of crystals. This piece is a fine example of this exciting new material featuring a vug packed full of sharp, translucent, rich orange colored crystals. No damage in the central portion of the piece and very eye-catching up close. If you collect worldwide Calcites, you have to add one of these to your collection. They will more than likely will disappear from the market soon, so don't miss out !
