Item Description

The Pea Ridge Mine was the last operating underground iron mine in the United States, closing in 2001. Combination specimens of this very high quality with granular magnetite matrix are RARE. Very glassy, transparent, colorless calcite rhombs, to 3.7 cm on the diagonal, are very aesthetically set on the magnetite. The rhombs have very nifty hematite coatings and are sprinkled with tiny chalcopyrite sphenoids. Lustrous, paper-thin baryte blades are scattered on the magnetite and calcites, adding much pizzazz. This is a wonderful and rare two-sided combination. Complete all-around and pristine. Very choice material from the Art Soregaroli Collection.
