Item Description

Calcite is not a terribly well known mineral from New Mexico and arguably some of the best specimens from the state come from the Groundhog Mine in southwestern New Mexico. This piece features unusual "curved" somewhat "feathery" scalenohedral crystal groups of pale pink (possibly Mn-bearing?) Calcite with small Pyrite crystals. If you collect U.S. Calcites or New Mexico minerals, don't miss out on this little beauty. The piece comes from the collection of geologist Allen V. Heyl, for whom the phosphate Aheylite was named.
