Item Description

Samson Mine calcite is a European classic and this fine, old-time German calcite has a great line of pedigree! The specimen hosts several tabular, hexagonal calcites, typical of the locality on a matrix of galena. These calcites probably date to the mid to late 1800s era here, or even earlier. This was originally owned by by well-known mineral dealer W.J. Knowlton in the late-1800s before being sold to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History where it stayed until Howard Belsky acquired it. From the museum-deaccessions suite of Alex Venzke's collection. This has an excellent pink fluorescence as a bonus. This is a significant locality specimen and a fine miniature in its own right, valued $750-1000.
