Item Description

India produces all kinds of wonderful minerals and crystals as specimens, but the combinations are what we have found to be most remarkable. This specimen has a lot going for it. It has a very sharp, GEMMY transparent calcite twin on one side (about 2 cm), facing off against another twinned calcite that is preferentially covered by a sparkling druse of quartz! How should this happen? They are literally next to each other. Why is one covered, the other not? It seems as if the first growth of calcite was then coated with quartz, and the calcite within actually etched away (so the translucent white shell is hollow now); and then a later growth of calcite in the same pocket produced the sharp twin sitting next to the first crystal. Overall a very balanced, sparkling, pretty specimen with a story to tell. It comes with a custom, engraved lucite base for display. Sean Lincoln Collection.
