There are many localities for fine crystals of Calcite throughout China, but these pieces from a coal mine in Daye, Hubei, China are certainly distinctive. The beautiful and aesthetic piece features a predominant, 4.0 cm, sharp, well-formed, gemmy, beautiful golden yellow colored, trigonal crystal of Calcite along with smaller associated Calcites on minor matrix. I love the superb crystal definition of the Calcites, that are distinctive for the species and for Chinese Calcites. Nothing else look like these Calcites from anywhere else in China. The piece is in good shape, though it's contacted on the back where it was removed from the pocket wall. This specimen is from a small find at this deposit from several years ago (about 2010). It was quickly depleted and these are all but impossible to find anymore. Classic material and every Calcite collection needs to have one of these specimens in it. Priced at $750.
