Item Description
This is a lovely matrix display specimen of these elusive Calcites found around 2010 in a coal mine in Daye Co., Hubei, China. The piece hosts a few very well-formed, sharp, gemmy, lustrous, rich golden colored compressed trigonal crystals of Calcite measuring up to 4.6 cm across, sitting on a thin layer of matrix. The large crystal has some gentle grey inclusions of what is presumably carbon, but hasn't been verified. While the main crystal is in very good condition, the second largest crystal on the piece is not complete, as it's cleaved on the back. These pieces came out for a very short time, and haven't been found again, so don't miss out on adding this one to your Calcite suite or your collection of Chinese minerals.
