Item Description
Distinctive and attractive, this botryoidal layer of cream-colored Calcite was originally thought to be Aragonite. The botryoids average about .5 cm, but they can reach up to 1.1 cm across. With a luster that varies from a matte finish that really enhances the rich color and gives a surprising depth to the piece, to a shiny and sparkly luster, this piece has good aesthetics. The main vug in this limonite matrix is completely filled with the Calcite. There is nothing in Mindat with this habit that approaches the richness or attractiveness of this small cab. Better in person. Owned by Herbert Maucher pre-WWII, this was #6874 in Kay's collection.
