Item Description
Brazil is known for a wide number of mineral species, mostly from pegmatite environments, but excluding Rio Grande do Sul, Calcite is a species that is not commonly found in Brazil. As a matter of fact, considering that Calcite is such an abundant species around the world, it's noteworthy how little of it is found in such a rich mineral producing country like Brazil. This piece comes to us from Frank and Wendy Melanson, who obtained it directly from the source in Brazil. It is not only a rarely seen Calcite, but it's a rarely seen color to boot! This complex/stacked group of silvery-green rhombohedra makes for a wonderful overall thumbnail with lovely soft internal translucency and fine surface luster (it's actually a bit more lustrous on the back). A really cool specimen for anybody who collects unusual thumbails, Calcites from obscure localities, or general minerals of Brazil.
