A rare, highly unusual and sculptural large calcite from this area of Alsace, France and the Tom Wolfe Calcite Collection. Three generations of calcite comprise this very showy piece. The first generation is the underlying lustrous, translucent, colorless to white calcite, that formed the impressive dogtooth scalenohedrons. Sparkly, drusy, oxide-tinted brown calcite covered the piece next. And finally, the larger, light brown rhombs were dramatically and preferentially deposited on the dogteeth and other areas of the piece. A fascinating, unusual and rare calcite from France, that looks great from either side.
