Item Description

Very rare and outstanding 3-generation small cabinet calcite from this obscure limestone aggregate quarry in Virginia. The sculptural piece is dominated by the impressive 3.8 cm scalenohedron with mesmerizing, shimmering 3rd generation stepped growth calcite faces. The sculptural plate is covered with mounded aggregates of an earlier generation of small glassy, lustrous and translucent calcite rhombs. There are also more larger partially covered stepped-growth crystals. The bottom attachment shows the large first generation calcite scalenohedron with the third generation coating. A very significant, RARE and aesthetic multi-generational calcite from the locale.
