Item Description

This is an interesting specimen from the well-known Black Rock Quarry for the simple fact that there are two different generations and styles of Calcite on the same piece. There are several sharp, lustrous, gemmy, light golden colored crystals measuring up to 1.5 cm, along with one predominant chalky white narrow scalenohedron measuring 1.8 cm, sitting atop classic pearly curved rhombs of pinkish Dolomite. Small scattered metallic Chalcopyrite crystals can be seen here and there. I've seen plenty of golden Calcite crystals on Dolomite from this locality, but the chalky white "dogtooth"-shaped Calcites are RARE in my experience. It should be noted that mindat.org lists this locality now as the Ben Hogan Quarry.
