Item Description

Classic and dramatic small cabinet multi-generational calcite from the well-known limestone quarries at Stramberk, Czech Republic. A striking and sculptural 360-degree pair of sharp, large, interpenetrating calcite rhombohedrons very aesthetically rest on an earlier generation of small, glassy, translucent, drusy calcites rhombohedrons. The first generation calcites rest on fossiliferous, marly limestone. The large rhombs have mostly frosted, matte luster faces with some faces with more luster noted. The imposing large rhomb is 5.4 cm on the diagonal, by 4.7 x 2.7 cm and has only a small rub on one face. Interestingly, the glassy, drusy calcites fluoresce light pastel-pink under LW UV light, while the large rhombs do not fluoresce. Ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection, a well-known German collector who amassed a world-wide collection of over 6000 pieces. A fine and artistic small cabinet calcite combination from the noted locale.
