Calcite (1800s specimen) (ex David Burgess Collection)

Item Description

A fantastic old time display specimen from Nagyag (Sacaramb) Romania dating back to the 19th century featuring gorgeous three-dimensional clusters of beige colored Calcite sitting on a layer of blue-grey Chalcedony on host rock matrix. The piece is in excellent shape all around with very little damage. It's incredibly showy and eye-catching! The piece comes with a couple of old hand-written labels, the most important being from the Mineralogish-petrographisches Institut at the Deutsche Universität in Prag. There is also a classic label from rarities dealer Josef Vajdak. The piece comes to us from the collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered. Valued at $1,800 in our inventory.
