Item Description

Impressive pair of translucent, glassy, golden amber colored Calcites from Indiana. This piece has cloudy white centers that transition to a lovely amber color with the edges becoming almost transparent. The sharp complex modified rhombohedral crystals are 2.7 cm and 2.3 cm across. They are mostly complete with the exception of the attachment points that can be seen by the little remaining tan limestone matrix. They each have tiny metallic inclusions floating in them that are probably Marcasite. An elegant pair of Calcites that have a beautiful internal radiance when lit. This is classic old Midwest calcite, and likely from the 1970s-1990 period here. From the magnificent aesthetic calcite collection of Cynthia Payne.
