Item Description

The Calcites from Tsumeb tend to get lost in the fold among the many other species found at this prolific mine, but they are some of the best examples of the species from any locality. They are varied in their styles, habit and colors, but this one is a great example of chemically pure (colorless) Calcite with no chromophores, but a group of excellent, very sharp, well-formed rhombic crystals measuring up to 1.7 cm on edge with no matrix. The crystals have good internal gemminess/translucency, and the majority of them are in excellent condition. A great small cabinet sized specimen of this classic material.
