Item Description

Sculptural, aesthetic and unusual 360-degree small cabinet calcite from the well-known skarn deposits at Charcas. A blocky, complex, tabular rhombohedron is strikingly accented with a well-placed 5.2 cm cm scalenohedron in front of it. The colorless prisms are translucent to transparent, very glassy and lustrous and the stepped-growth faces add much character. Both sides of the large rhomb are cleavages, but are certainly only modest detractions to this well-appointed piece. Charcas is noted for famous "pokerchip" calcites and world-class danburite specimens. Neon-pink LW UV fluorescence. Ex Cynthia Payne Calcite Collection, a focus collection well known from exhibits throughout many years on the East Coast. Valued by the former dealer at $495 over 6 years ago. The unusual combination forms of the two crystals plus the excellent presentation make for a very noteworthy and uncommon Charcas calcite.
