Item Description
An adorable, transparent, lustrous, pale yellow, 2.3 cm, doubly terminated calcite crystal is aesthetically set upright on the earlier drusy calcite-coated limestone matrix with other calcite crystals. The other large calcite crystals are cleaved or bruised. The quarry is known for such attractive calcites and has also produced excellent specimens of radial sprays of strontianite crystals. The specimen dates from the 1940s to mid-1980s, when the first quarry was abandoned. A fine and showy calcite from the extinct locale. From the Cynthia Payne calcite collection, a focus collection well known from exhibits throughout many years on the east coast.
