This is an attractive display quality specimen of Calcite from a discovery in a coal mine in Daye, in Hubei, China, from circa 2010. The piece features a few predominant, sharp, well-formed, gemmy, beautiful golden yellow colored, trigonal crystals of Calcite measuring up to 4.7 cm along with smaller associated Calcites on minor matrix. I love the superb crystal definition of the Calcites, that are distinctive for the species and for Chinese Calcites. Nothing else look like these Calcites from anywhere else in China. The piece is in decent shape, but it's contacted around the lower portion where it was removed from the pocket wall. For reference, this discovery was quickly depleted and these are all but impossible to find anymore. Classic material and every Calcite collection needs to have one of these specimens in it.
