Item Description

Charcas has produced a good amount of attractive and varied Calcite specimens over the years. This piece is a great example of the beautiful "poker chip" style Calcites featuring flattened, "stacked" crystals measuring up to 2.1 cm across, and ranging from a stark white hue on one side to more of a golden-smoky tone on the other side. The crystals are sitting in minor matrix. It's difficult to properly illustrate the quality in photos or a video, and it honestly looks better in person. A few of the crystals are contacted, but overall the piece is in very good shape, and showy from a few angles. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired from mining, but spent many years underground, including as the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures"
