Item Description
The Cripple Creek District in Colorado was one of the most prolific telluride producing mining districts in the United States. Telluride species from this area are highly sought after by collectors, and it is well justified as some superb examples are known from the various mines in the area. This face of this LARGE specimen is loaded with, hard to see, excellent, sharp, highly splendent, tabular, striated, monoclinic crystals of the rare gold telluride, calaverite. The crystals have a bronzy/silvery hue. The striated lath set in the middle is 5 mm x 4 mm. These specimens are very difficult to obtain, and considering that the majority of them were mined over 100 years ago, the only source for specimens is old collections. Very large and rich ore from the famous Cresson Mine. The piece displays well without aid. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!! Aside from its value as a mineral specimen, there is certainly, by weight, going to be at least some value of gold and ore content here
