Item Description

A very rich, very rare, impressive and attractive large combination specimen with numerous white crystals of the rare calcium arsenic borate cahnite and tiny orangish-pink to tan crystals of the rare complex silicate masturite embedded in a colorful, rose-red rhodonite vein from the Franklin mine. The old-time piece comes from the Richard Kosnar, Paul Desautels and Robert Hesse Collections and has been X-rayed. Cahnite was named after noted mineral dealer, Lazard Cahn, and Franklin is the Type Locality for both species. The rhodonite vein rests on classic Franklin ore of sparkly granular franklinite with pods of white willemite (fluoresces green). The closeup photos show that some of the cahnite crystals are terminated. An outstanding and very rare large old combination piece. Valued at $3000.
