Item Description

Sharp, translucent, rich honey-yellow smithsonite rhombohedra, to 1.7 cm on the diagonal, with satin-luster faces are richly and attractively clustered on the sculptural small cabinet-sized matrix. Yellow cadmium-rich smithsonite is among the rarest and most desirable smithsonite varietals from famed extinct Tsumeb Mine. Smithsonite is one of the most prolific species from Tsumeb and has produced an amazing diversity of crystal habits and styles in a striking rainbow of colors. But this particular color and style is only RARELY available in this aesthetic quality, richness and color. Valued at $2500. It is a superb specimen, worthy of any Tsumeb collection. Donated to the Rice Museum by a local donor, for this benefit auction.
