Item Description
Sculptural and aesthetic 3-dimensional specimen of pretty variable purple, hexagonal amethyst crystals dominated by two, much taller intergrown "Cactus Quartz" crystals. The amethyst points are very glassy, lustrous and are transparent to translucent. Striking, rich grape-purple terminations and edges highlight the blush-purple interiors of the crystals. A few points are also included with iron oxides adding color and character. The tall crystals are the famous "Cactus Quartz" with the secondary overgrowth of small amethyst crystals at the base of the points. A revelation on one side reveals the long early generation quartz crystal capped by the amethyst scepter and then the stalk is overgrown by the small "cactus" amethyst crystals. Older material from the late 1980s, as the material was erroneously marketed as being from "Magliesberg". Ex Shields Flynn Collection and author of the 2018 book, MInerals of Namibia - From the collection of Shields and Frances Flynn. Classic, showy and excellent older material from the early finds.
