"Cactus" Amethyst

Item Description

Three amethyst "towers" form a very sculptural small cabinet from this instantly recognizable South Africa locality. The towers are covered with a second generation of smaller amethyst crystals, some included with iron oxides, which add color and contrast. The small crystals really sparkle and are called "cactus quartz" for their form. Dramatically, the two outside crystals have isolated terminations, while the inside crystal has a totally covered termination. Interesting crystal chemistry here. The bodies have a prickly "cactus" look with the overgrowth of the smaller crystals. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only one small bruised crystal to the left amethyst tower. A very showy and fine example from the locale. Classic material from the early 2000s, which we now ONLY see as old collections built in the 1990s to early 2000s are recycling.
