Butterfly Calcite twin (old classic)

Item Description

A classic, gem, colorless, well-striated, stout, butterfly-twinned calcite from the famous iron mines at Egremont. One side is preferentially dusted with tiny hematite platelets. The lower left edge of this side is cleaved and just a bit of edge rubbing is noted. The other side has a prominent contact, where another crystal lay, but has no damage, per se. These add character. Both sides display very well. Excellent and desirable old-time calcite. Valued at $895 by the former dealer.
