Bumble Bee Jasper

Here we have an attractive gem of the unique "Bumble Bee" Jasper from Indonesia. I am told that these stones are only found in Indonesia, and the rough is mined near an active volcano. For what it's worth, this material is actually not Jasper,and according to a few online sources, it's actually a carbonate (likely Calcite or Aragonite) and the yellow color is caused by Realgar inclusions. This "Freeform Cabochon" cut stone shows beautiful golden yellow zones set between dark greenish-black banding. A lovely gem of this uncommon material. Great patterning and size!
