Item Description
This striking specimen of spherical fluorite is from a new 2011 find from Inner Mongolia, China. We call these 'bug-eye' fluorites for their bulbous shape. The intergrown, lustrous and translucent fluorite botryoids to 2.0 cm are actually composed of sharp, intergrown, pretty sea-green octahedrons with scattered complementary purple octahedra. The 'bug-eyes' rest on the side of a terminated, lustrous, gray-white quartz crystal with intense, stepped-growth faces. It looks like a pine cone. The one broken ball reveal the interesting radial growth of the spheres. This is a very showy and fine example of this rare fluorite form from new locale, that is producing a suprising number of fine specimens of different varieties.
