Item Description
A superb, old-time, large, parallel-growth cluster of terminated, flattened brucite blades from the famous, extinct Wood's Chrome Mine of Pennsylvania. The sculptural piece features translucent, yellowish-green to gray blades with waxy luster. All of the primary blades at the top are pristine. These are some of the most well-known Brucites from any locality in the world and date between from the 1830s to the closing of the mine in 1881. These are an early U.S. classic mineral species and often are dear to collectors of antique U.S. minerals and localities. Ghostly white LW UV fluorescence. Formerly in the collection of Abe Rosenzweig, 1925-2005, well-known geologist, collector, author (co-author of 1997's Dana's New Mineralogy) and long-time member of the Mineralogical Record Board. Ex George Loud Collection No. 7210.
