Brookite (unusual locality)

Item Description

Hardangervidda is world-famous for its anatase crystals that have been found associated with quartz and albite since the late 1960s/early 1970s but it is possible to find the 3 main polymorphs of the TiO2 minerals there. Just a couple of kilometers away from the anatase in Matskorhae, brookite has been found around Mt. Nibbenut. This piece has a flat laying crystal of brookite on matrix and while it doesn't compare to the likes of Pakistan brookite, it is rare to see any Norwegian brookite on matrix in the market! The largest crystal on this is 1.0 cm in length. From the collection of Alex Venzke when he was focused on a sub-suite of Norwegian TiO2 minerals.
