Item Description

Brookite chemically is titanium dioxide, and is a polymorph of the well-known minerals Anatase and Rutile (along with a few more ultra-rare species). Typically Brookite crystals don't exceed 1 cm in length, sometimes up to 2 cm, but THIS piece is very good-sized crystal measuring a full 3.5 cm at its longest dimension. Historically, you'll see some excellent examples of Brookite from the Italian Alps, but the crystals are often small. Starting in the early 2000s, there was a discovery of some truly impressive "Alpine-type" Brookites in the Balochistan Province of Pakistan. These pieces are remarkably similar to the true European Alpine Brookite specimens as they are equally sharp, lustrous, gemmy and filled with fiery red color. This piece is notably large, very sharp, lustrous, thin tabular crystal of Brookite with a strong glowing red color when backlit. A great overall piece that presents the species in a size and quality that is hard to find in nature. The termination is pristine, and the piece looks beautiful in person.
Former Brian Kosnar specimen.
