Item Description
A rare and large 230-carat cabochon of Wyoming bronzite, which is sometimes called “Wyoming Pietersite” due to its fabulous chatoyancy. Indeed, this spectacular gem looks like a grouping of sparkly fall leaves shimmering under a thin coating. It has a unique optical effect, making it highly valued among lapidary artists an collectors. Custom cut by Gary B. Wilson from vintage material collected in the 1950/60s. From the collection of American gems and lapidary, of Dallas collector Jim Houran. This specimen is donated by Jim as part of the 2023 Dallas Mineral Collecting Symposium benefit auction, with proceeds benefiting Mineralogical Record, Rocks & Minerals, Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, and mindat.org.
