Item Description
A fairly hard to find specimen of the copper sulfate Brochantite from the Kabolela Mine in DR Congo. This mine is not located in the Haut-Katanga Province, but further west in the Lualaba Province, still part of the Katanga Copper Belt, but many pieces were labeled as coming from Katanga back in the day. This piece is a lovely small cabinet filled with small, strong green colored acicular crystals showing a slight chatoyant quality, sitting on matrix. The crystals are beautiful to view up close and we've photographed them with a macro lens to show the quality.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020 (#RR 0250). Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
