Item Description

This is the first specimen of Brochantite that we've had to offer from Baita (Rezbanya), Romania. This thumbnail features a tightly intergrown cluster of deep electric green colored blades of Brochantite measuring up to 1.1 cm long sitting on oxidized matrix. When backlit, some of the smaller Brochantite crystals show a vivid vanadium green hue. For the most part, this piece is essentially a reference specimen, as it's not terribly showy, but if you collect rare locality specimens, this is the kind of thing that only comes along once in many years, so don't pass it up. An aside, the name Rezbanya literally means "copper mine" in the old Hungarian, and this locality unexpectedly is credited as the type locality for Hemimorphite! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4318). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
