Item Description

Specimens from the lesser-known War Eagle Mine in Inyo County, California are virtually impossible to obtain on the market these days. This long abandoned Cu-Pb-Au-Ag-Zn-Fe mine operated from 1912 to 1957, and I have to believe that this specimen was self-collected by Bob off the dumps. It's a very attractive large miniature / small cabinet featuring sparkling, rich emerald green colored acicular crystals on oxidized matrix. The Brochantites look beautiful up close, and we've photographed them with a macro lens to better illustrate the quality. A very nice piece for any fan of secondary copper minerals or rare California localities.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
