Item Description
Linopolis has produced a surprising number of Brazilianites from recent mining in about 2000-2002 (or thereabouts). The habits of these crystals are strikingly symmetrical, when they are at their best (as is this one). Also, the habit is very different than the classic crystals from the 1940s from the type locality elsewhere in Minas Gerais (Corrego Frio); and different from the other modern-era find of Brazilianite in the Conselheiro Pena area. In the late 1990s, collector Gene Meieran with dealer Wayne Thompson invested to develop and explore an initial prospect at this locality. Few specimens were produced that were of a high quality, and the project was turned over to others with time - continuing to produce a trickle of specimens but few notable pieces. This one, according to Gene, was actually the finest smaller specimen they pulled out of their project around 2000, a fine small cab suitable for even his collection of (fancy) gem crystals. The main crystal is 6.5 cm and has freestanding treminations, complete, at either end. Valued $2500-3000
